The reception area is doing more than functional work. It's telling visitors who they're dealing with — formal or informal, established or new, corporate or creative, traditional or modern. Get the space right and a visitor's first thirty seconds set the right tone for everything that follows. Get it wrong and the visitor adjusts their expectations downward before the meeting even starts.
The reception area is also where a lot of waiting happens, which means the seating has to actually work — comfortable for the ten minutes someone might sit before being called in, sturdy enough to handle constant turnover, and appropriate for the people who actually use the space. A healthcare waiting room and a corporate lobby have different design priorities even when the budget is similar. We plan reception areas to match the people who'll be in them.

A formal law firm reception, a corporate executive lobby, a hospitality property entry, a healthcare clinic waiting area, and a modern creative-agency reception all use the same product category but want very different things from it. Clinic on the Hill - Quail Springs Baptist
A non-profit healthcare clinic — reception area built with Tayco Cosmo panel.
Recently installed and currently an active design engagement with the client on additional spaces. For this project, rather than specifying a traditional reception desk and freestanding lobby, we used Tayco Cosmo floor-to-ceiling panel systems to architecturally section off the reception area — defining the space, creating visual separation between waiting and clinical zones, and integrating storage and front-of-house functionality into the panel structure itself. Cosmo's broad configurability is what made this work; the same panel system that runs as a private office cubicle elsewhere can be specified at ceiling height with custom finish to create what reads as architectural rather than as furniture. Most dealers would have approached this as a millwork problem; we solved it through systems furniture, which let the client get something distinctive on a furniture budget rather than a millwork budget.

New branch buildout.
A full buildout for a brand-new branch built 2-3 years ago, with the lobby anchored by Global's Wind lounge collection in a coordinated grouping — club chairs, a loveseat, two additional chairs, and a coffee table — sized and arranged to make the member-service experience feel welcoming without making the lobby feel cluttered. Wind is one of Global's most-specified lounge lines for good reason: clean lines, durable contract construction, and finish options that coordinate cleanly with a branded interior. The right reception specification varies more by industry than almost any other product category. Corporate offices balance brand presentation with functional waiting capacity. Law firms and financial services tend toward formal premium seating that reads established and trustworthy. Healthcare clinics need easy-to-clean, antimicrobial-grade upholstery alongside lounge that doesn't feel sterile. Hospitality reception expects a more designed, hospitality-grade aesthetic. Education waiting areas — admissions offices, administration buildings — balance durability with welcoming design. Government and municipal reception areas often have accessibility and procurement requirements built in.

What does the lead time look like?
Most reception desk and lobby furniture orders ship from manufacturers in four to six weeks, with about one week of transit on top of that. Custom-finish reception desks and premium lobby seating may take longer. Several of our commercial and value lines offer quickship programs — COE reception desks in particular can deliver in a fraction of the standard lead time for projects with tight move-in deadlines. We'll give you a realistic timeline at quote stage and flag quickship eligibility where it applies. We don't schedule an install date until the product is physically in our warehouse — which is part of why we've never missed a committed install date.
Do you carry reception desks for quick move-ins?
Yes. COE quickship reception desks deliver well-built, functional reception furniture in a fraction of the standard lead time, which makes them a strong choice for new offices that need to open on a tight schedule. We've installed several of these for clients who needed something good and fast.
Can you do a custom or architectural reception solution?
Yes — and not always as millwork. Sometimes the right solution is a custom-finish reception desk from a manufacturer line; sometimes (like the non-profit clinic above) it's using systems furniture architecturally to define the space. We'll plan the approach based on your space, your budget, and the impression you want to make.
What's the difference between lobby seating here and lounge seating on the Collaborative + Lounge page?
Generally, lobby seating here is the more formal and traditional category — the kind of seating that goes in a law firm reception, a corporate executive lobby, a healthcare waiting area, or a hospitality entry. Collaborative and Lounge Seating covers the more modular and active product — the kind designed for tech startups, creative offices, and active work zones inside an office floor. Many manufacturers we carry make both, and we'll spec from the right side of the line depending on the project.
Do you carry residential-style commercial lobby seating?
Yes. For spaces that want lobby furniture that doesn't read as corporate, we carry lines like Gus Modern and Blu Dot alongside traditional contract manufacturers. This works well in modern creative offices, boutique hotels, healthcare clinics, and any space where the design language is closer to a well-curated home than a traditional commercial lobby.
Do you handle installation?
Yes. Our installation crew is in-house — we receive, inspect, deliver, install, and clean up before we leave the site. For architectural reception solutions involving panel systems or trade coordination, we handle the planning and trade interface alongside the install.
